Beloved son of Pam and Tony Royce of West Mersea, England, brother to David (Jane), Ian and John (Karen), and caring uncle to his many nieces and nephews, and Tom and Clara. He will be greatly missed by many, including his partner Suzanne Vetterli, and his loving friends, Megan Ellis, Jane Williams and Lorraine Chisholm.
He received great comfort and support from his friends at View Court Housing Co-operative where he lived for more than 20 years.
He was a valued and active member of Vancouver Co-operative Radio, Vancouver Community Net, the Mount Pleasant Community Centre, Spartacus Books, and the Elizabeth Rogers Community Garden. He recently received a Lifetime Achievement/Community Radio Legend Award from the
National Campus and Community Radio Association, and a bench will be erected in his honour at the new Mount Pleasant Community Centre.
He and those who loved him were very grateful for the kind support of the B.C. Cancer Agency, and particularly appreciative of the care provided by Dr. Pippa Hawley, Dr. Gayatri Sreenivasan, Dr. Graeme Duncan and Dr. Meg Knowling.
When Peter was holidaying on Salt Spring Island this summer he constructed a hummingbird feeder from red paper and a syringe — and it worked! That act expresses his special intelligence and imagination, his love of nature, his commitment to the environment and recycling, his sense of humour and his love of life.
A gathering is taking place at the Rhizome Café, at 317 East Broadway on Sunday November 15, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers please donate blood if you are able.
